Becky Blanton is a former journalist with 22 + years experience as an award-winning reporter, photojournalist and editor. Becky's essay about her father appeared in Tim Russert's 2006 best selling book, "Wisdom of Our Fathers, Lessons from Daughters and Sons." Her father died of a brain tumor just weeks before the book was published. She quit her job as a newspaper editor to travel and grieve. What began as an adventure turned into nearly 18 months of homelessness. She went from living in a van with a Rottweiler and a cat in a Walmart parking lot in 2006, to speaking at TED Global in 2009 in Oxford. How did she do it? In three years rivaling Forrest Gump's life, she was selected out of 60,000 entries for Tim Russert's book, met Seth Godin by chance online, joined his social network, entering a contest hosted by Dan Pink, an author of several best selling books and a former head speech writer for Al Gore, won the contest thanks to Seth's help from his readers, then won another contest to earn the right to tell her story at TED Global in 2009.
