I had several "ah-ha" momments during his talk. I've struggled with MVVM for several years, am currently involved in a project using it, and I wish I had seen a talk like this two years ago!

Thumb I recently attended a talk at the Philly code camp by Joel on practical MVVM. I have spent countless hours reading and watching videos on this topic, so it would be unfair to say that I learned it from Joel. However, I can say that it was during this talk that I reached my moment of clarity on the subject. Joel has the ability to deliver the subject in an uncluttered fashion that gave me the ability to focus on just what I needed to learn what I was trying to learn. If you ever happen to have the opportunity to watch one of his talks, I highly recommend that you. Do so. If you are trying to learn MVVM, I also recommend that you check out his site at www.practicalmvvm.com.

Thumb You explained the concepts of Container Driven Design very well. Once I understood the concepts, it made sense and felt like common sense in designing user interfaces with XAML. Your examples were excellent and you showed different ways of doing the same thing and showed what happens when the different ways are applied. You kept the audience engaged by asking questions and encouraging dialog - using coupons for your book :). You combined understanding Blend with Container Driven Design well, especially for the XAML and Blend beginner like me.

Thumb You presentation fit in well with my level of expertise with Expression Blend (early intermediate). I was especially interested in the four principles you presented, in seeing how to make data visible at design time, and the proper (and easy) way to prepare the ViewModel for unit testing. I'm looking forward to your book, and hope that I can catch one of your deep dives into Expression Blend somewhere soon.
