Jackieavi_normal I was blown away by the conference as a whole, but still feeling a little bit lost by the end of it all. Jonathan came in with not only a soothing presence that was measured and gentle, but also he provided concrete strategies for how to cope with the future. He gave reasons and explanations, and referred to research, but without getting overly technical or obscure. All of this was delivered smoothly and coherently to a tired audience, and yet I believe most were tuned-in and attentive. I've also had a good experience in follow up, where I was able to tweet Jonathan to ask about a meditation app that he described during his talk, and he took the time to answer my tweet and direct me to the correct item. He walks the talk. I was glad to hear what he had to say, and feel extremely fortunate to have been present.

Bio

Jonathan Fields is a lawyer turned serial entrepreneur, author, speaker, innovation and creativity catalyst and AdAge Power 150 blogger at JonathanFields.com. His next book book, Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt Into Fuel for Brilliance, is due out in September 2011 with Portfolio. And his last book, Career Renegade: How to Make a Great Living Doing What You Love was named a Top 5 Summer Read by MSNBC's Your Money and a Top 10 Small Biz Book by Small Business Trends.

Fields has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, USA Today, People, CNBC, FastCompany.com, Inc.com, Entrepreneur, Vogue, Elle, O Magazine, Self, Fitness and thousands of other places that sound cool, but don't impress his daughter.

He also runs book marketing and publishing educational venture, TribalAuthor.com, which offers online trainings and events for authors, aspiring authors, book professionals and publishers.

Between leaving the law and moving the bulk of his activities into books, blogs, trainings and speaking, Fields launched, built and sold two leading fitness companies, his last being one of the top ranked yoga studios in NYC where he had the great joy of not only building the business, but hugging everyone hello and eschewing shoes for the better part of 7 years.

His newest book, Uncertainty, is the manifestation of his growing mission to help individuals and organizations create optimal environments for innovation and creativity, building a culture and sharing set of individual practices and workflow shifts that not only accelerate the quality and speed of creation and innovation, but make the process exponentially more enjoyable and livable.

When not busy creating something, you can usually find him dancing around his living room with his wife and daughter...or writing in the third person.

Headshot-matt-orlando_normal Jonathan stepped up to the plate (er, stage) in the proverbial bottom of the 9th inning (last speaker). By all accounts (least of all mine), he hit a grand slam for the win! I venture a conservative estimate that 95+% of the conference attendees were still present for Jonathan's talk on Uncertainty. The reasons why that number is so high means everything and all point to a single truth - Jonathan commands attention, respect, and admiration. He has a gentle stage presence that isn't contrived nor domineering. He makes you feel at home in your seat; you'd swear you were entertaining him as a family guest in your sitting room. Further, Jonathan's magic stems from his great storytelling abilities and prodigious knack at illustrating thoughts in your mind. And his marshaling of facts, quotes, and research-backed anecdotes cement his credibility as a thought-leader not to be ignored.

Charlie-gilkey_normal Jonathan had the unenviable task of speaking last at a convention full of great speakers and thinkers. There's a reason the organizer put him last, though - Jonathan delivers the goods consistently and with depth. Jonathan is a colleague of mine and it's been a distinct pleasure to watch him grow as both a speaker and a thinker. His command of the material in his next book - which centers around uncertainty, creativity, and innovation - was apparent.

87148597948f35f9aafe91849bae32b1_normal I had read Career Renegade, but didn't know how well Jonathan could speak to a crowd. He led us through how we can use fear as a motivator and instead of viewing it as a barrier, use it as a stepping step. Jonathan ended the weekend with strong finishing speech.

031monicac_normal Jonathan had the insane task of speaking last after an incredible jam-packed weekend... and he knocked it out of the park! His calm and inviting presence was the perfect way to bring together all the life-changing moments of the weekend. I especially appreciated his message of "taking bold consistent action in the face of uncertainty." Bravo Jonathan!

Thumb Jonathan Fields is one of those unique speakers who draws you in and makes the audience part of the value he is creating. Through a wonderful, entertaining combination of storytelling and insightful questioning, Jonathan does more that "tell" you what he thinks you should know. He shows you where the path lies for you and gives you the courage to follow it having armed you with knowledge. Oh, and he loves to have fun and laugh (always a bonus).

Thumb Jonathan was, without question, one of the most popular speakers at our recent International Freelancers Day conference. Days after the event, you could still feel the buzz and excitement in our discussion forums from his ideas and insights. Several attendees even contacted me directly to tell me how much value they got out of his presentation. Besides being an engaging speaker, Jonathan is also a pleasure to work with. He gave a lot of thought to developing a topic that would resonate well with our audience. He also stayed in touch throughout the process, and he came through on all his commitments. Overall, a true professional -- I can’t wait to work with him again!

Thumb Jonathan has a magical way of connecting with an audience. From his first word and his first story he's theirs and they are his the bond is forged. His is information is woven into stories that carry us along listening and learning as we go. He's an unforgettable speaker. The kind that makes us want to say, "Do it again!" the second he's stopped. Mostly because we know if he does we'll learn even more. -- Liz Strauss

Thumb Jonathan spoke at the inaugural TEDx event at Carnegie Mellon University and rocked the house! From the beginning, he was down-to-earth, accommodating and incredibly easy to work with. Jonathan has an amazing ability to grab an audience with an insightful and motivating presentation. Going off our theme “Fearless”, he asked the audience three key questions: What if I do nothing? What if I fail? and What if I succeed? Through these questions mixed with personal experiences, he showed why it is better to live a life without regrets. If you want someone who captivates the audience and fires them up, he’s your man!

Thumb I had the great pleasure of hearing Jonathan Fields speak in NYC in November 2009 when he hosted his "Tribal Author Camp." As a speaker, Jonathan is an absolute natural - warm, sincere, honest, funny, and best of all... relentlessly focused on how his comments can improve his audience's lives / careers. Jonathan Fields’ Tribal Author Camp is one of the best investments I’ve made in my book marketing efforts – and coming from a tightwad personal finance type that’s no small statement. The best part was… well... I'll say it again: Jonathan. He embodies all that is good in the entrepreneurial world. A man of great integrity, energy, and joy – he guided us out of the marketing bushes and into the land of the “tribal love triangle” – where he taught us the three essential activities that drive 80% of an author’s marketing success. That knowledge alone well exceeded the price of the event… but on top of it I made some amazing new friends amongst the other attendees, and feel part of an ongoing tribe that is putting Jonathan’s knowledge and good karma to use on a daily basis. If you’re an author who wants to sell more books – you want to stay close to Jonathan. And beyond authors - if you are an entrepreneur of any type, or an organization devoted to serving them... Jonathan is a speaker that delights, over and over. Highly recommend.

Thumb This guy came in as a favor, at the last minute, and still knocked it out of the park! Jonathan knows how to connect and engage with an audience, and better yet, inspire them to action. Nobody left the room when Jonathan spoke; he drew them in immediately with great storytelling and his passion for the topic.
