Bio

Lucien Canton is a nationally known consultant, speaker and author. As a consultant, his clients include well-known companies such as Adobe Software, VMware, Synopsys, and Genentech as well as large and small public sector organizations. Mr. Canton serves on several national-level task forces and working groups developing standards for the emergency management profession and provides support to higher education curricula development for the profession. His book, Emergency Management: Concepts and Strategies for Effective Programs, is used as a textbook at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Mr. Canton has a national reputation for keynote addresses that are provocative and stimulating. His presentations combine history, academic research, humor, and real-world experience to teach perspectives on preparedness and leadership in crisis. His seminars and workshops are tailored to each audience and are highly rated for their realistic, practical advice. Among the many organizations that have benefited from Mr. Cantons presentations are: ASIS, International; Business Recovery Managers Association; California Society of Municipal Finance Officers; Executive; Council of Homeowners; International Association of Emergency Managers; Research Security Administrators; San Francisco Ready; Seismological Society of America; Utah Emergency Managers Association; Textile Rental Services Association; National Developmental Disability Nurses Association.

Mr. Canton was the Director of Emergency Services for the City and County of San Francisco from 1996-2004 and a Regional Hazard Mitigation Officer and Emergency Management Programs Specialist with FEMA from 1990-1996. He served with the US Army in Germany from 1975 to 1980 and held a variety of positions in the US and abroad in the private security industry from 1980 to 1990. His credentials include certification as a Certified Emergency Manager, a Certified Protection Professional and a Certified Business Continuity Professional. He is also a certified assessor for the Emergency Management Accreditation Program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Business Administration in International Management degree from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.
