Her speech at Ithaca College last fall was without a doubt one of the top five talks I've ever seen. Her personal story was compelling, and was engagingly told. Her use of humor humanized her experience, and make often difficult subject matter both more approachable and more personal.
I attended with a friend of mine and now, nearly a year later, we still speak glowingly about the experience.

I remember walking in the halls headed to the library where there was a special presentation from Michelle Courtney Berry. Like any normal teen I was excited just to be getting out of class.The presentation inspired me. Truthfully I did not even want to leave school, but continue listening to her poetry. Hearing Michelle speak was Amazing. The way she puts words together, making the audience either laugh or cry, but cry in a good way. She is moving and so very gifted at what she does. She inspired me to progress with my own poetry. I can only hope that one day my poetry is just as good.
