Nastia Liukin
2008 Bejing Olympic Gold Metalist-All Around, Fashionista, Clothing designer
Winning 5 Olympic medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics was only the beginning for Nastia Liukin. As the 28.7 million Americans who watched the Games know, Liukin parlayed her extraordinary athletic prowess into a Gold medal in all- around gymnastics, one of only three U.S. women ever to do so. Upon her return from Beijing, Nastia Liukin has become America's sweetheart, gracing covers of US magazine, WWD Beauty Biz, and the front of the iconic Wheaties cereal box, and making several television appearances on TV programs including the hit show Gossip Girl, NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno, HBO's Costas NOW, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. MSNBC named Nastia Liukin the 2nd most marketable athlete around the same time that she appeared in Glamour Magazine as one of "The 11 greatest bodies on Earth". By the years' end, Nastia had received such honors as the Women's Sports Foundation's Individual Sportswoman of the Year and the United States Sports Academy's Female Athlete of the Year. Now, she's looking to make the transition from balance beam to brand spokesperson. To transcend her life beyond the gym, Nastia is focused on a brand positioning centered around promoting healthy living for young women; her message is about fighting teen obesity, getting kids active, giving kids the opportunity to have fun and be healthy.
Nastia has a signture event called the Nastia Liukin Cup which is the culmination of a 14 city qualifying event with the top 2 gymnast in each city going to the National event televised on Universal Sports. The NL Cup benefits the Nastia Liukin Foundation which provides funding for gymnastics clubs that support young athletes in financial need and various charities throughout the year.
