Bio

Stephen Koch is motivational speaker and expert mountaineer and snowboarder. His list of alpine ascents and snowboard descents include some of the most notable firsts anywhere in the world, most of which have never been repeated. He is the first person to snowboard all the major Teton Peaks in Wyoming, and the first and only person to snowboard on all Seven Summits, the highest peak on each continent.

One Step Further is a multimedia presentation offering a unique perspective on reaching your highest potential from one of the worlds great adventurers featuring unforgettable stories and images from spectacular and remote locations.

Stephen Koch's experience managing risk in extreme mountaineering sports provides unique and powerful insights into risk management. His speaking engagements and seminars enable people to feel the fear, motivation, and inspiration involved in risk management when ones life is at stake. This perspective translates into a clearer understanding and appreciation of risk and a newfound dedication to risk management in the work environment.

Koch has spoken for and consulted with Shell, Pepsi, Wharton, and the World Presidents Organization, among others. At Shell he addressed the entire workforce for the Pinedale Anticline, speaking on safety and risk management. An excerpt of the letter he received from Shell is below:

"Stephen was able to connect his personal experiences in managing the obvious risks associated with his passion with those of the Shell workforce. Stephen was effective in getting the complex topic of risk management to a very basic yet powerful level, one of individual choices and self-awareness."

                James Duran, Shell

At Wharton Business School Koch spoke about leadership and the importance of managing risk while pushing a project forward. Managing the inherent dangers in climbing is critical to staying alive. Managing the inherent dangers in business is critical to success, particularly in todays treacherous environment.

Headshot_for_twitter_antarctica_normal We searched extensively for a speaker that would actively engage our clients and provide a unique story, well beyond the traditional business motivational speakers. Stephen delivered on all accounts given his non-traditional life experiences. Stephen added immense value to our offsite client marketing event because of his candid interaction with our clients regarding his adventures. We found that Stephen added a refreshing spin on his approach to facing challenges, which is not often communicated in an interesting fashion by traditional business speakers. We would not hesitate to include Stephen in future events. - Michael Jordan, American Capital

His presentation combined spectacular film and photography with stories and anecdotes that brought to life storied mountain locales from around the world. Stephen captivated the audience with his humility and humor for one so renowned as a world class mountaineer. Headshot_for_twitter_antarctica_normal Stephen Koch was the right speaker with the right message for our sales meeting. We wanted a speaker with mountaineering or winter sport background to compliment our meeting location in Utah, but we wanted more than a cliché message that is common with this speaker type. We chose Stephen because his theme, One Step Further, simultaneously illustrates two key points: how the everyday person can make decisions that result in accomplishing extraordinary things; and the accomplishment can be remarkable for the way it is achieved, even if the objective is not grandiose or uncharted. His presentation takes you on a journey with breathtaking photos, suspense, humor, and self reflection. Leave plenty of time for questions, and then double it! -Ronda Robinson, ZymoGenetics, Inc.
